The Election Department of Kerala functions under the esteemed guidance of the Chief Electoral Officer - Kerala, an appointment conferred by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Adhering diligently to the ECI's guidelines, mandates, and supervision, the Chief Electoral Officer has the pivotal task of managing, updating, and correcting all Electoral Rolls in Kerala. This role also encompasses ensuring the seamless and impartial execution of elections to the Parliament and State Legislature within the state, as dictated by s13 A(2) of the 1950 Act and s20 of the 1951 Act. In fulfilling these essential responsibilities, CEO-Kerala is backed by an adept team, comprising the Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Joint Chief Electoral Officers, Assistant Chief Electoral Officer, and other proficient members from the State Secretariat service.
